The dealer has the paper to complete the buy back, the lawyers just aren’t willing to send a flat bed to pick the car up. Just emailed the salesman that sold me my last two vehicles, we’ll see if he’s interested in losing a customer over $100 for a flat bed. No effing way I’m driving a car on summer tires down my snow and ice covered road. Back story !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! and !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .

No, I’m not driving a car on summer tires down that.

As an added bonus I found the perfect replacement. A WR Blue STi that is almost exactly how I would have ordered one. Negotiating with the “local” dealer and the dealer who currently has it in stock 9 hours away. Hopefully I can still find some post cyber Monday vape pen and flat brim hat deals.

Yikes, this has been quite the ordeal. I keep seeing new FoRSs for $10k off, maybe experiences like yours could be why there’s not a whole lot of people buying them.

Sounds like he’s already lost you as a customer if you’re buying an Sti haha

You’re not the only person I’ve heard of getting a buy back.

My friend let me drive his a few weeks back, and I just didn’t get what people were raving about. I was happy about getting back into my (shitty, poorly built) FiST after the experience.

Wow this sucks. Hopefully they’ve been paying for a rental car for you to drive all this time that you haven’t been able to use the car.

At least there’s a sliver lining, the yellow brake calipers on the new STi’s look sweet. Will the one you’re getting have the performance package as well?

So, yeah, FoRS Problems... they exist, that’ s a fact. But your dealer gets an F- in “fixing broken shit” I mean, I’ ve done head gaskets on turbo- 5cyl (Volvo) and I talian v6 (Alfa Romeo) cars in my damn garage and managed to get the timing right on the first try in all cases.

The STi isn’t an only vehicle, it’s got friends in the driveway.

I think you may have found the second worst Ford dealer in the country.

Hi, quick question. When was the build date on  your RS? Just curious, as mine had the compression test and was fine but they still replaced the gasket before I bought mine (my request before even paying one penny). Side note: mine is a 2017 but sat on the lot over a year with deep discounts, 20 miles on the odo when I got it . Thanks and good luck and enjoy your Sti!

Aww, I’ve been eyeing the Focus RS amongst others in its class, because I will be starting a new job that will have me be no closer to mild Pacific Northwest than... Edmondton....

So, I have been looking at these sporty AWDs that I can slap on a set of DWS06, so I can have some fun carving canyons in the summer, while not get hopelessly stuck if caught in a sudden snowstorm in the winter.

I am also a bit of a hipster, so the Focus RS ticks a lot of the boxes with its guaranteed MT, and end-of-life status. Stocks languishing in dealer lots, and the massive discounts, are also tempting.

So, what else, then? Higher-end, like the Audi RS3 or the MB CLA / GLA 45 AMG? The other hipster choice, the unicorn Golf R 6MT? Or like your choice, the budget-racer WRX STI?

Not sure what the build date was, and it left on a flat bed this morning. It was a 2017, and was probably an early-mid summer build date. It was a customer order car, but the guy they ordered it for found a new one before it showed up. I first saw it on their lot in late August or early September.

Mine passed the compression test, and per the TSB the head gasket was replaced. The mechanic clearly screwed up the replacement, the car was fine before the dealer got their hands on it. Talking to a local rally driver who’s done a fair amount of engine work he figures they didn’t have the cams properly secured before they pulled the timing belt and the valve springs shifted the cams enough to smack a couple valves.

It was a super fun car to drive, but after well over 30 days in the shop with the engine opened up it fell under my states lemon law. Even after it was all back together there was something off on it. Once it warmed up it would have a really funky idle when you started it like it would miss a couple times or something.

ETA: The other idea we had was that the head got set down on the valves and that is what bent them.  We figure if the timing was off enough to crash valves it would have gotten all the valves, not just one or two cylinders.

I really liked the 2007 STi that I traded in on the RS, so that is why my plan is to go back to the Subaru.  If I were you, I’d test drive them all and see which one you like best.

I’m not sure what it was, but I don’t think it was setting the timing wrong.  It’s like they smacked a couple valves while it was apart, or during assembly.  If the timing was far enough off to crash valves it should have gotten all the valves, not just one or two cylinders.

Yeah, but on paper the Focus RS ticks all of my boxes. I doubt that you can still recommend THAT! :-P

It also seems to have a slightly more upscale interior than the Subaru. I admit that that is a weird thing to consider in this class, but I started driving with 5x BMW 3-series, and now drives a Cadillac CTS-V2 (which, as a 1/1200 6MT unicorm, I have to keep), so I cannot fall that low :-P

Hence the Golf, which seems to be a step up, then the Audi RS3 or MB CLA / GLA for another step up, with the corresponding price hikes....
